Georgia Veterans Memorial Golf Course at Lake Blackshear

Golf Digest just released its 2009-10 list of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses, and Georgia took the #1 spot.  And though it has two private courses on the ‘greatest’ list, Georgia’s public, state courses are also receiving praise from the iconic magazine’s readers.

In its annual subscriber survey, Places to Play, golfers from around the country revealed their high regard for the quality of the state run golf courses.  Six of Georgia’s eight state park courses were rated 4 stars of higher (three courses were ranked 4 1/2!).  With a highest possible rating of 5 stars, 4 stars represents an “outstanding” course, a place to “plan your next vacation around.”

Here’s the list of the course with their rankings:

Arrowhead Pointe at Lake Richard B. Russell, Elberton 4 1/2 STARS
Meadow Links at George T. Bagby, Fort Gaines 4 1/2 STARS
The Lakes at Laura S. Walker, Waycross 4 1/2 STARS
The Creek at Hard Labor, Rutledge 4 STARS
Georgia Veterans Memorial Course, Cordele 4 STARS
Little Ocmulgee Wallace Adams Course, McRae 4 STARS
